Restoring boat, need some advice on a twin engine setup (possibly two 2.5 fishing engines). Also replacing transom and I want to switch from Balsa to Okoume plywood. Any pictures or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

which hull are you restoring [what colour is it!hwhat is the hin?] I'm assuming it was a twin to begin with, most were! with the power available today a single is quite adequate!

the aerated hull will have a 1.5 inch step with about a dozen holes in it about 3' from the back of the pad and two 3" hull fittings under the back seat! what is the hin number! post some pics>

Curious why you would want twins on that hull. Do you have a certain goal in mind speed wise?

I want twins on my challenger to keep me from falling asleep when I drive it.
Really afew years ago Idrove one with twin 2.0L and it was a hand full, Ithink with
some more seat time and a better set up mine would be good with a pair of 2.5L.
The boat is getting recored this fall and I will build the floor and transom inthe winter
Im not the kind of person who would be happy with one hot rod 3.0L so this is my alternative.I totally understand the positives of one motor with todays tech but thats not me.Any advice or pictures to aid in fixing of this boat would be good.I hav spoken
to T2X and he had some good input.Lastly the areators will be removed.
THANKS 76HORIZON

Don't remove the Aeration. I respect T2x, but he is wrong. I have had both, the aerated hull is faster with twins, it creates more stern lift and runs faster and flatter.

Who is Aubie Mondals? Do you have any pics of your old boats?Mine is black but I think it was originally white on top.Do you have any pics of it? Ithink its an 1981 due to the gas tank stampings.
Who made these boats in canada?Any advice on my rebuild would be helpfull
thanks 76horizon

Most of the Challengers were built for people, Aubie was one of them. I really don't know much more than that. Ted at Speedmaster knows well. I am pretty sure that the Challengers were built by Charger. Conzano Brothers (sp?). They had George Linder design the 18 DL charger.
Mark at Tuff Marine has restored a pile of boats and knows the story well.

thanks 76horizonwaiting for the pics. -was the boat a single or twin, need to see a pic. of the transom ! if your going heavier than 2.4's I would suggest filling the transom like an i/o rig for more freeboard!

Curious why you would want twins on that hull. Do you have a certain goal in mind speed wise?handling and acceleration are vastly different! I would think a pair of 300's would put it over 100! detuned [pump fuel] modvp's will run to 90!

my boat has the 18" transom with the 3" notch . when i'm done it will have a 24" transom and a 3" notch. i am trying to remove as much of the well as possible. The new transom will be way stronger
than the original.I was actually disappointed in its original construction,3 layers of 1/2" balsa and virtually no glass.I will put pics on when Ifigure out how.
