I finally got the boat wet and enough hours on it to do some short bursts of WOT.I've never had EGT's before so I could use some help on what to look for.I have a 2.4 with WH 15's and a non drilled intake and my EGT is a Hot Tach III with the probs in the divider plate lower bolts. Here's what I see so far.At 3000 rpm mid 800's,4500 rpm 930,3/4 throtle 1060 and going WOT temp droped to 1040(I had 98 mains in)and motor would start 4 stroking.Went down to 94's without much change.Put in some 90's and all the lower #'s stay the same but got a change at WOT to 1100 and the 4 stroking went away and felt more willing to rev.I will read the pistons once I get closer but was wondering what kind of peak temp are safe?

Anyone got any opinions.A freind who runs them on his sled said they run them as high as 1350-1400 but that sounds higher than I've heard around here.I seem to have a # like 1250 in my head does that sound wright?Don't want to burn down cuz I was stupid:rolleyes:

There is no such thing as a clear safe/unsafe lines when it comes to EGT readings. There are variances in the gauges and the temperature of the probes are highly dependent on where they are placed, as well as on porting, compression, advance etc.
I am afraid that you will have to read piston tops or plugs to find out where you should be, and once you have that point of reference, you can use the EGT.
