Don't know if there's any truth to this - and I suspect there's not, but I've heard a few people mention that you can make Mercury controls work with a Yamaha motor. I've got the commander 3000 controls on my boat - I'm about to get rid of the ole 2.0L Merc for a Yamaha VMax. As of right now I haven't had a chance to look over the cables on the yamaha to see if they look like they would work. Thanks for your input.....

Sure you can. We have a Merc / Yamaha (Merc-aha) 225 4-stroke on our harbor boat with Merc controls / guages. Merc came up with an adaptor for the merc controls / wiring to plug into the Yamaha. If you want to price it out use this ser # OT675327.
If that's too much $$, You can use the universal cables. If you need wiring, look at both wiring diagrams and splice together. Eric Simon's done it. Said it was easy.

I am using Yamaha controls with a Mercury, and that is no problem either. Wiring info can be found by using the search function on S&F and Rickracer can sell you either standard 33C wires or an adapter from Mercury to 33c
